This course is designed for people who are currently working as carer/support worker involved in the day to day care of service users. The course is for six months and it's divided into workshops and work placement. The theory part of the course is taught in the classroom. Students are expected to attend classes once every two weeks for at least three hours a day; the class will be conducted fortnightly on Saturdays. Students are expected to undertake about ten hours of work placement everyweek. This will be arranged for you by Browncross Healthcare Training Department.

The course consist of eight units in total, four of which are core units and further four will be selected from a wide range of titles to reflect the individual student's job role.

The four core units are:

  • Communicate with, and complete records for individuals.
  • Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals.
  • Develop your knowledge and practice.
  • Ensure your own actions support the care, protection and well being of individuals.
Each unit contains standards of practice and knowledge against which students will collect evidence to demonstrate their competence. Candidates will be allocated an assessor who will observe them in practice and give advice and guidance on the evidence to be collected

There is no written examination. Students will be assessed through their workplace observations and a portfolio of evidence that they are required to produce.

Course leads to: on completion of NVQ Level 2, students can progress to NVQ Level 3 qualification in Adult Health & Social Care.
